Becca III

Becca Bills I & II, passed in the last two legislative sessions, were a massive setback for youth and human rights. They essentially criminalized runaway youth and gave complete control of kids to their parents, even ones provably committing physical or sexual abuse.

The State Supreme Court struck down parts of Becca on behalf of a teen involuntarily committed to a Bellevue mental institution by her parents. Unfortunately, the Human Services Committee has "fixed" that problem and come up with more besides. Becca III lowers standards for involuntary commitment of minors to the point where a kid can be locked up for "medically appropriate purposes," which can mean damn near anything.
