Tax Cuts

One set of tax cuts has passed already, and another, larger one is on the way. Why are they bad? Because they're almost all targeted at middle and upper income individuals and businesses, when Washington--through its lack of income tax and high sales tax--already has one of the most regressive tax systems in the country. And because the much-cited state budget surplus is going to disappear instantly when the federal cuts in state funding hit and demand for social services skyrockets. Small businesses and middle-income people do need tax relief--but it needs to be extracted from big businesses and the wealthy, now paying way less than their share.
