Activist Calendar

Last week, ETS! published its usual two-week activist calendar, which is still available in Vol. 6 #1 or at our web site, www.eatthestate.org. This calendar is devoted specifically to events, planned as of Sunday, Sep. 16, related to the terrorist attack and U.S. response.

Firstly, the ad-hoc Seattle Peace Coalition's website is now online (with minimal content): http://www.scn.org/911peace/.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 22

1 PM-3 PM, Westlake Park, 5th Avenue and Pine Street, downtown Seattle. Rally For Peace (probable title "Alternatives to Violence"). Called by members of Seattle's Afghan community and supported by several local peace groups. Info: Peace Action of Washington, 206-527-8050.

8 PM. "The Brave and Embattled Women of El Salvador!" with Guerry Hoddersen and Radical Women, New Freeway Hall, 5018 Rainier Ave. S., bus #7. Info: 206-722-6057.

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 25

6:15 PM. "The Palestinian Viewpoint of the Current Intifada In Palestine and Israel," St. Mark's Cathedral, 1245 10th Ave. E., Bloedel Hall, bus #7, 9. Presented by Christian Palestinian Women from Jerusalem. Info: 206-301-4355.

ONGOING:

An ad hoc coalition, involving numerous peace and social justice groups and individuals, is forming rapidly to call for a measured U.S. response to last week's terrorist attacks. It is discussing helping to mobilize for Saturday's Afghan-organized rally, and possibly planning a major public rally Sept. 29, to coincide with the large protest in Washington, DC that has been transformed from an anti-World Bank/I.M.F. direct action to a peace vigil and rally. For more information, contact Fred Miller at Washington Peace Action, 206-523-8050, or the voice mail at Eat the State!, 206-903-9461.

For an excellent and much, much longer compilation of upcoming and ongoing progressive events in Seattle, check out Jean Buskin's Peace Calendar: http://www.scn.org/activism/calendar/ or e-mail her at bb369@scn.org.
