That being said, I hope you won't mind my getting anal. Troy's translation of asshole as "pendejo" is incorrect. It actually means pubic hair, and it's more commonly used to mean stupid rather than asshole or jerk. Why pubic hair is regarded as less intelligent than other body hair is anyone's guess.

A Mexican friend once told me what you need to know to speak Spanish: "Bueno is good and panocha is better!" (Sorry, Maria.)

M.T. responds: Lots of people think that my first name, "Maria," indicates that I'm Latino. Actually, my pendejo parents named me after an obscure actress who starred in several 1960s spaghetti westerns. But I don't usually tell people that; instead, I remind them that "Maria" is a common Slovakian name, just like my family name.
