From The Kitchen

by The (remaining) editors

Well, it's summer, and there's always at least a few comings and goings this time of year. But this year, we've got more than usual.

First, a warm welcome to Rebecca Snow Landa, who replaces Amber Croyle as our new calendar editor! (And thanks to the others who also expressed interest!)

Alas, gain some, lose more: co-editor and proofreader Tarah Kent has had to relinquish both roles due to a new job which will require her to work weekends (which is when we volunteers actually put the content of this paper together). We're sad to see Tarah go; she did a great job. But we understand (our pay is, um, nonexistent). So, we're looking for both: a new proofreader, and a new co-editor. Editors edit every third issue (generally every six weeks); it basically takes up most of your Sunday. Our proofreaders (we now have two left, one of whom's out of town this summer) get the copy Sunday night and have about 24 hours to look it over. Since our two existing co-editors are guys, we'd prefer a woman to replace Tarah, but competence and reliability are the biggest qualifications. E-mail us at editorial@eatthestate.org if you're interested.

We've also lost the man who has been by far our most prolific distributor, and a couple of other key routes as well, so we suddenly need volunteer distributors for a bunch of Seattle routes: Pike/Pine, Broadway, Downtown/Belltown, Queen Anne, Fremont, Ballard, & Green Lake. That's a lot. If you can help out, e-mail volunteer coordinator Peggy Hotes at pshotes@aol.com.

Finally, as we usually do during the summer, we're skipping extra weeks a couple of times to give our remaining tired volunteers some R&R time and save a bit of scarce money. Therefore, after this issue (dated July 20), we'll next print in three weeks (Aug. 10), then two (Aug. 24), then skip three weeks again. That issue, Sep. 14, will be our big 10th anniversary issue. Hopefully we won't be at war with 16 countries by then, and we can take an issue to celebrate. Meantime ... enjoy summer!
