FROM THE KITCHEN: The Party's Over, Fund Drive Continues

by the kitchen crew

Thanks to all the folks who showed up (and, apparently enjoyed themselves...) at our 10th anniversary party on Nov. 12--and thanks tons to the Asteroid Caf for hosting it.

The partys over, but the annual fund drive continues! It's picked up in the last two weeks, but we're still only a bit over a third of the way to our $6,000 goal. ETS! is an all-volunteer organization, no paid staff (or staffed office at all), so most of the money goes directly into printing the paper. As it says in the Tiny Print, the more money we have, the more pages, and papers, we can print. Its that simple.

There's lots of ways you can help! The easiest is just to donate directly--any amount helps--to PO Box 85541, Seattle WA 98145. Or use the PayPal option at http://www.eatthestate.org. Or consider subscribing, for yourself or for those dozens of friends and relatives on your holiday shopping list. (Our t-shirts make great gifts, too.) And, of course, we also value donations of time and energy, whether distributing, writing, ad sales, whatever. Call us at 206-719-6947 for details on any of this.

The upcoming N30 FCC hearing in Seattle (see article, this issue) is another good reminder of why independent media is so important in our community. Currently, every major radio station, TV station, and daily newspaper in the Seattle area is owned by one of only 10 corporations. If the FCC gets its way, that number could become one in cities across America. The only way to counter it is to produce our own media--not just online, but also in radio, video, and with print publications you can hold in your hands.

Like this one. We just had a party because Eat the State! has been doing this, on a shoestring, using your money and time and energy, for over 10 years. Please give. Help us have another party in 2016.
