7-9:30 PM. "Tears For The Crocodile." Friday Night At the Meaningful Movies and Wallingford Neighbors for Peace and Justice present a film on East Timor. The 32-minute documentary film chronicles a school trip made in April 2005 by 10 Nova High School students to their sister high school located in East Timor. The program will also feature free cups of fair trade, organic East Timorese coffee which is used to raise money for the sister school, available in bag form for $10 a pound to benefit the Sister School project. 7:30 PM. Brian Steidle on the Darfur genocide. Former US Marine Captain Brian Steidle served for six months in Darfur as an unarmed military observer for the African Union. He bears witness to the genocide in Darfur and shows how one person's actions can have the power to change the world. Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life and University Book Store. 8:30-10 PM. Non-Profit Comedy. A benefit show for CASA Latina, a community-based organization that educates and organizes Latino urban migrant workers and their families. Through June 24. The House of The Spirits by Isabel Allende. Book-It Theatre presents this alluring tale of matriarchy, magic realism, and revolution. Elements of the story are based upon Allende's own life; her uncle Salvador Allende became the first socialist to be elected president in Chile in 1970 and then in 1973 was assassinated in a military coup. 7-9:30 PM. "In Search Of International Justice" (66 min, Judy Jackson, 2006). Friday Night At the Meaningful Movies and Wallingford Neighbors for Peace and Justice present this film about a crucial new commitment to the International Rule of Law. In 2002 the International Criminal Court was established in The Hague. So far 100 countries have signed on to the Court's mandate. 8 PM. Stonewall Youth Drag Cabaret. Back by popular demand, Stonewall Youth will be performing their fabulous Drag Cabaret in Seattle! This show includes an all-star cast of Queer Youth from Olympia, Tacoma, and Seattle, playing talk-show hosts, newscasters, Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton, even George W. Bush himself. The youth have spent months developing this production, exploring issues of homophobia, transphobia and racism as it relates to their communities and their lives.
