It's a useful reminder for us boisterous, well-informed editors (and kitchen crew) that our reach is often a lot farther than we think it is. We tend to get stuck in the week-to-week cycles of putting out the paper, and not notice that over the years we've built up quite a store of credibility and familiarity, in Seattle and beyond.

One of the things that interferes with our looking at the big picture, of course, is money. We never have enough--it's expensive to print an old-fashioned hard-copy newspaper, and postage rates, of course, just went up. We try to keep our subscription and t-shirt prices affordable, but it's often a struggle to pay the bills.

Last year, we had only one fund drive, in autumn, and we didn't quite make the goal we set for ourselves to tide ourselves through the lean months of the following summer. So, well, summer is here, and we need to ask for your support. This time we're going to do a really short mini-fund drive--just to make a modest goal of $3,000 to tide us over while revenue traditionally slacks off during the nice weather. If you value our boisterousness, our resources, our sheer doggedness in continuing to publish, then please help us out.

Since it's summer, rather than the traditional crockpot we've decided to get out the backyard grill and skewer some politicians. Won't you help? Subscribe (or renew), for yourself or a friend.
