From The Kitchen
A couple of quick Kitchen notes this issue. First off, you're invited
(yes, you!) to the first-ever ETS! VOLUNTEER FAIR,
to be held Thursday evening, Oct. 18, location TBA (we'll have it next
issue and announce it on KEXP). We could use writers, artists, layout
and graphic help, web savvy, distributors, ad sales. It takes a lot to
keep a volunteer-run publication going, and this will be your chance to
meet the editors, writers, and other volunteers at ETS!, hang out
a bit, and check us out. Fun and prizes, too. Mark your calendars and
stay tuned for further info! And, of course, you don't have to come on
the 18th to volunteer--check out the Mini-Mart ads on page 7, or e-mail
us at info@eatthestate.org.
We have two articles this issue on friends of ETS! who passed
away recently, Jeff Fairhall and Walt Crowley. Both died much too young,
and will be missed.
At the other end of things, one of the volunteer slots we've been
working to fill is a replacement for our outgoing webmaster, Peter
Sutherland, who, after nearly a decade on the job, has a new
priority--he should be a first-time father by the time you read this.
(Congratulations!) Amazingly given the, um, distractions in his life,
Peter just oversaw the transfer of the ETS! website to a new
server last week, and in that process we had about three days (before we
figured out the problem) in which all e-mail to any of the
@eatthestate.org accounts was bouncing. If you sent e-mail during this
time and it came back to you, try it again--it's working now! --eds.
