Microsoft and Google do business in mainland China, but only Yahoo has its headquarters on Chinese soil and is therefore subject to Chinese law. A new documentary screened at the Seattle Human Rights Film Festival February 16 reveals that Yahoo has gone far beyond simply following Chinese law, to actually gathering information on Chinese citizens who speak out against the government and reporting them to the authorities. Several free speech activists in mainland China have been imprisoned because of Yahoo. Journalist Shi Tao is locked up for 10 years for sending a single email with illegal content. Anyone who cares about Human Rights, freedom of speech, and democracy must boycott Yahoo now until they get out of bed with the totalitarian and repressive regime governing mainland China. Before you close that Yahoo account, contact customer care at 408-349-3300 to tell them why you are taking your business elsewhere.
