From The Kitchen
by the kitchen crew
Eaters of the State, out of the necessity that is being broke and having a printer to pay, it's time for our fall funding drive--the good news is we're already off to a wonderful start!
Thanks to the turnout of local readers and Geov Parrish groupies who relished the notion of witnessing the ETS! founder getting braised and a little bit toasty during his 50th birthday celebratory roast, we already have over $1,000 in needed monies. To keep ETS! in print we need to build on this momentum with your support toward $5,000 in raised funds. If you continue to value having non-corporate media available in community-friendly locations throughout Seattle, please donate via our PayPal link at http://eatthestate.org or via snail mail to "Eat the State!" HQ (PO Box 85541, Seattle WA 98145), or invest in one of our awesome t-shirts or a gift subscription or three, just in time for the holidays.
Much appreciation must be expressed to the brigade who made the roasty magic happen. Big thanks to the participating roasters, to Geov for being such a good sport, and to everyone who assisted with event set-up and take-down. Special thanks must be expressed to Peggy Hotes, Gabrielle LaValle, Gail Draper, and Vanessa Pepoy for their food donations, event planning, and organizational prowess. Thank you also to Mike, Sigrid, and Adrienne of Lake Forest Park who assisted with additional dessert donations, Mike and Liz for putting the roasty portion (all 80 minutes!) on YouTube--for those of you who missed the fun, or want to see Geov squirm again, it's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgVYYHoLyns--and a final big thanks to Kevin Evans for designing the evening's music mix, for amplification equipment donation and set-up, and sound engineering work. Bravo to all you fantastic, lovely volunteers who put this memorable night together!
A final item of note: this is ETS!'s tenth anniversary WTO issue--with several features on the 1999 protests after ten years of context, and the future of that movement. (Descriptions of what happened in the protests themselves are in our archives from 1999: http://www.eatthestate.org/04-07/index.htm.) It's our tribute to all of you who took to Seattle's streets in opposition to multinational backroom dealings as a option for deciding the health and wealth of nations and our planet. And to all of you who continue to do so, today and moving forward, as corporate elites fiddle and our world (not just Geov) roasts, starves, and burns. May there be many more "Seattles" to come!
